About Us

MOPS stands for Mothers of Preschoolers. The purpose of MOPS is to meet the needs of every mom -urban, suburban, and rural moms, stay-at-home and working moms, teen, single, and married moms.

MOPS recognizes that the years from infancy to kindergarten are foundational in a mother-child relationship and are filled with unique needs. MOPS helps moms through relationships established in the context of local groups like this one that provide a caring atmosphere for today's mother of young children.

At Derwood MOPS we are building a safe community that disciples, supports, encourages, and inspires moms to embrace God’s divine calling to motherhood.

What happens at a MOPS Meeting?
At each of our meetings, moms enjoy a chance to socialize, relax and learn in an informal setting. At most meetings a speaker will address a topic related to motherhood or family life. Following the speaker, we'll have time for discussion and socializing. We'll end the morning with a creative activity or life skill lesson.

How can I get involved with MOPS?
If you are a mother of a child age birth through six, you may join MOPS. Because we need to plan for childcare, please register before attending. To register, you can fill out the registration form on our Registration page, email us at derwoodmops@gmail.com, or contact Derwood Bible Church at 301-948-5440.

What about childcare?
During the MOPS meeting, children will be cared for in a preschool-like setting called MOPS Kids. We strive to make it a fun and nurturing program so that kids are glad to be there, and moms are glad to leave them.

What does it cost?
This year the annual MOPS International registration fee is $31.95...your spot is not confirmed until we receive this payment. This fee goes directly to MOPS International, and in return you'll receive a subscription to a bi-monthly magazine and other great things!

Here’s what is included in your MOPS International membership – A welcome kit with:
  • An annual subscription to The MOPS Magazine, delivered right to your doorstep each quarter
  • Exclusive downloads from our favorite artists, authors, boss-moms, and culture influencers
  • Weekly Mom-E-Mails, encouragement delivered to your inbox
  • Exclusive discount offers.
  • A welcome kit mailed to your home with:
  • A guidebook to help transform your year

In addition, we do collect chapter dues to cover the costs of materials and childcare. If money is tight, please inquire about a scholarship. For more information on chapter dues, visit our Registration page.

What else does MOPS offer?
Playdates - Each semester we offer several playdates. Bring your kid(s) and enjoy a morning of fun.  Playdate plans this year include a trip to the pumpkin patch, a Christmas party, a train ride at the park, a walk through the gardens, and much more.
Mom's Night Out - Several times per semester Derwood MOPS will organize a Moms Night Out. Leave your kids at home and remember what life was like before kids! Each month we will try a different activity - cheesecake, craft making, a game night, ceramics and more!
