Meet your 2020-2021 Derwood MOPS Steering Team (and their families)! These ladies work hard behind the scenes to make our MOPS meetings wonderful.
Rachel DeBacker, Co-Coordinator
Rachel is a wife, mother, Jesus follower, book nerd, and lover of all things quiet. This is her ninth year in MOPS and first year as coordinator. She and her husband Devin met in college and have been married for 12 years, moved 7 times, and have 5 kids - Leila (9), Sophie (7), Emma (5), Bennett (4), and Liam (1.5). When she's not running kids around and dragging them on new adventures, she's volunteering at her kids' school and diving into her many book clubs. Rachel is excited and honored to be serving MOPS this year and can't wait to see how God works through the group to bring mamas closer to Christ during this humbling, hard, joyous, and sometimes hilarious journey of motherhood.
Kory Glossop, Assistant Coordinator and MOPS Kids
Kory Glossop is entering her 6th year with Derwood MOPS and is very excited for her new role this year. She and her husband Steve have been married for 8 years (as of October) and have 2 boys: Caleb is 4.5 and Levi just turned 1. Kory loves reality competition, cooking and home shows and talking to friends (or really anyone who will interact and talk back!) She currently works with the high school youth group at DBC in addition to helping with MOPS and is passionate about seeing both groups thrive in the grace and love afforded them in Christ!
Melanie Lilliston, Registration
This is Melanie's third year in MOPs and first year on the steering team. She is Mom to Hadley, 3, Smith 1, and Millie our angel baby. She is originally from Texas but came to DC for graduate school and has been here ever since. She has a Masters in Public Administration and worked in the non profit sector before staying home with her kids. Melanie and her wife have been married for 7 years and they enjoy being outside, especially anything related to the water. Melanie is grateful for her time at MOPs and is looking forward to another great year!
Janice Wilson, Hospitality
Janice grew up in Holland NY and married my husband, Josh, after graduating from Thomas Edison State University with a Bachelor's in Business Administration. In 5 years being married, we have lived in NY, OK and MD because of his Army career. We have one daughter, Eleanor (18 mo). I love cooking, outdoor activities, crafting, traveling and my family. This is my 2nd year being in Mops and am excited to be more involved by serving!
Kristen Llewellyn, Co-Creative Activities
Kristen was born and raised in Montgomery County, went to college in Mississippi, and came back to Rockville after graduating. After teaching private school for 2 years (4th and 5th grades), Kristen began teaching First Grade in Montgomery County. She has been married to her husband, Paul, for 7 years and has 3 wonderful boys -- Clayton (4), Brooks (3), and Emmett (1 in January). In her spare time, she enjoys baking all sorts of pretty treats, creating things (usually involving power tools), and spending time with her sweet family. She is so excited for another great year in MOPS, as we all learn and grow together through this crazy adventure called motherhood.
Kate Vestermark, Co-Creative Activities
Kate is originally from Lafayette, LA and has a master’s degree in Counseling from the University of Louisiana where she focused on play therapy with children and addictions counseling. She is currently taking time off as a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor to stay home with her daughter, Ahna, who is 2. Kate met her husband on Match.com while he was stationed in VA in 2015. He is active duty Army and they moved to MD in 2019, so that he could pursue his master’s degree in Health Administration and Policy at USUHS. Kate enjoys cooking, gardening, sewing, hunting and fishing. This is her 4th year in MOPS (2nd at Derwood) and 1st year on the steering team. MOPS has been a wonderful way for Kate to get connected to a strong support group, quickly, no matter where the Army takes them!
Alicia Cohen, Social Events
Alicia is a native of Montgomery County. This is her second year in MOPS and her first year on the steering team. She has been married for 9 years to her husband, Hobie, and together, as of this writing in June 2020, they have an almost-3-year-old daughter and a 6-month-old son. She likes to crochet, read non-fiction books (primarily about marriage, parenting, and spirituality), and spend quality time with family and friends. Alicia is super excited for MOPS this year and is looking forward to making new friendships, deepening existing MOPS friendships, and seeing what blessings God has in store!
Kristen Stack, Communications
Kristen is a marketing obsessed entrepreneur turned stay at home mom (for now, we shall see what the future holds). During the day, she prepares endless amounts of snacks for her 2 year old Leonardo and does her best to soothe and snuggle her 2 month old Sawyer. After the kids are in bed, she cozies up to a glass of wine and her Cricut machine to make whatever her creative brain desires. She just opened an Etsy shop selling some of her designs, so fingers crossed it funds her crafting habit. Kristen grew up in a Christian household but her love for Christ has grown immensely over the last decade as she learned to appreciate how He uniquely made us all for our own special purpose.
Taryn Ramsammy, Table Leader
Taryn is a wife, mother, and business owner. She loves Jesus, caffeine, and sarcasm, in that order. Her journey to motherhood began as a foster momma and she became a bio momma shortly after. She is hoping to add adoptive momma to that list very soon! She and her husband, Liam, got married just out of college six years ago. They have five adorably rambunctious kiddos: Three foster sons, ages 5, 4 & 2, and two bio daughters ages 3 & 7mo! This is her fourth year in MOPS and first year on steering. She is so grateful for this group for the way it has shaped her as a mother and broadened her faith. And she is so excited to share that fellowship with all the mommas this year!
Megan Curley, Table Leader
Megan grew up in Maryland and attended college at The University of Maryland and graduate school at Georgetown University. She is a former nurse turned stay-at-home mommy to 3 adorable ducklings- Logan (8), Auden (4), and Reagan (2). She met her husband Justin while in college and have been married for 10 years. Being a military family they've had the opportunity to live in Europe and explore many parts of the world. This will be her fifth year in MOPS, and first time as a table leader. She looks forward to meeting so many new mamas this year. She enjoys (in no particular order) traveling, coffee, spending time with her family, photography, working out, Saint Louis Cardinals, and the beach.
Katie Samsock, Table Leader
This is Katie’s 4th year at MOPS and she is so excited to be a table leader!!! Katie has been married to her husband, John, for 10 years. They live in Olney with their two kids Libby (5) and Jack (3). She grew up not too far away in the Silver Spring/ Burtonsville area. Katie loves to read, bake, act on stage and travel. She can’t wait to kick off this year and make new friends and grow in her faith with this awesome Mama tribe!
Elissa Macias, Table Leader
While this will be Elissa's 3rd year at Derwood MOPS (1st year as a table leader), she still feels like the new Mama on the block and loves learning from the collective wisdom of the Mama tribe. Her heart is to encourage and support Mama's so that they can be whole and healthy to do the hard work of raising the next generation. We can't do this alone and I look forward to leaning in together for the coming year ahead! As for Elissa, she hails from the Pacific Northwest and still stumbles over calling Maryland home (even though she's lived here for 17 years - time flies!). She works full time as a sign language interpreter, with her time split between managing her own business and coordinating interpreting services for government clients, taking MOPS days off to focus on being a Mama. She is married to her best friend and parenting copartner in crime, Daniel of 11 years and they parent their two-year-old twins, Annelise & Isaac. When schedules allow, we love to Salsa dance, enjoy a good meal with wine, try to read a book here or there, but let’s be honest, time is mostly focused on keeping the home operations organized!
